Acupuncture - Chinese Medicine

“The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients
in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
-Thomas Edison

Traditional Chinese Medicine seeks to restore and maintain health by balancing Qi, the vital energy of life, in order to promote the body's natural ability to heal itself. When Qi is balanced and flowing, the body is in good health. Symptoms of illness occur when the energy is either obstructed, deficient, or in any way out of balance.

Chinese medicine is a comprehensive system of health care that uses a system of diagnosis designed to lead us to the cause of your health problems. This allows us to alleviate your primary ailments, and provide you with improved overall health and vitality.

In addition to acupuncture, herbs and the other therapies mentioned, we will also discuss dietary therapy and lifestyle changes you can make that will affect your condition.

Our treatments blend will with the Western medical therapies you may already be using - especially when they relate to the treatment of chronic conditions and the prevention of disease.

Meditation - What it is and why it is important for your Health and Well Being

-Christopher Hafner, L.Ac.

When the mind is quiet and the heart is open and at peace, the body is naturally filled with healing energy. A mind that is filled with restlessness, stress, and negative emotion interferes with our ability to be well. An unquiet mind also interferes with our ability to recover our health when we are sick. Illnesses are more frequent, more severe, and last longer. Injuries take longer to heal, pain is more difficult to bear, and we age faster. When the mind is restless we find it difficult to be present and stay in the moment. When we are not present in our life, we often do not respond to change in a way that is conducive to harmony in our lives or in the world around us. We react, often without thinking, in ways that harm others and ourselves. We overeat or eat the wrong things, or forget to eat at all. We stay up too late, and then cannot fall asleep when we do go to bed. We work excessively and then collapse and don't move at all. Most importantly, we miss the opportunity to be fully present in our life as it is happening and we miss the chance to really connect with others and with the natural world around us.

A quiet mind and a peaceful heart is our original nature, our natural state of being. A restless mind filled with negative emotion is a conditioned state of being, a learned behavior, a bad habit we have developed over years. The good news is that we can break this bad habit, recondition our mind, open our heart and cultivate peace and equanimity in our life. This is what meditation practice is all about.

In Chinese medicine, the practice of meditation and cultivating a quiet mind and opening the heart to a peaceful, loving, existence, is considered to be the very foundation of all health practices.
