How does acupuncture work?

Special needles are inserted at certain points on the body to stimulate energy, or Qi, along pathways called meridians. The meridians are linked to specific internal organs and organ systems. The needles, which are pre-sterilized and disposable, are extremely thin and cause little or no pain when inserted.

How many times will I need to come in for treatments?
That depends on your ailment and your general health. Some people will respond to treatment more quickly than others. Our goal is to affect your body's energy so that your body will begin to take over the healing process. After your initial visit, we will let you know how many times we think you will need to return for treatments. At each session, we will assess your progress and make changes in our plans if necessary.

Can you treat my problem?
Chinese medicine is a comprehensive system of medicine, so we can be helpful in most health conditions. It may be that acupuncture would be useful for you. It might also be that food therapy and lifestyle changes would be appropriate. These are variables we talk about with you.

Can I use this in conjunction with other types of medicine and therapies?
Generally, yes. Sometimes acupuncture enhances the effect of other therapies you are already using. We will discuss your particular situation in detail with you.

Do I have to be sick to get acupuncture? Can I get acupuncture for wellness?
This medicine is based on strengthening the body to prevent illness, and historically has been used to prevent illness. Many people use Chinese medicine as part of their health maintenance plan. Some come in once a month, while others come in with each change of season.

What do you charge?

New Patient: Initial intake, private one-hour consultation and treatment ...........$120

Returning Patient: Acupuncture treatment, one-half hour, private room ...........$60

There is also a small (2%) MN Care tax applied to treatments.

What is your cancellation policy?

We kindly ask you to give us 24 hours notice if you must reschedule or cancel an appointment. If you must cancel less than 24 hours from your appointment or miss is altogether, we charge you for the full amount of the appointment.

Do you take insurance?

We are a member of the HealthPartners network. If your HealthPartners plan covers acupuncture, you need only pay your copay. If you do not have HealthPartners insurance, we will give you a receipt that includes the insurance codes your insurance company may need to process a claim. You can then submit these receipts to your insurance company.
